May is Healthy Vision Month! Take care of your vision with these simple techniques!

  • Ehh, Whats up Doc?

Bugs Bunny had the right idea! Carrots contain a high amount of vitamin A, which is an essential nutrient for healthy vision. Eating carrots will provide you with vitamin A  but it is not limited to what Bugs Bunny ate.  Vitamin A is also found in milk, cheese, egg yolk, and liver.

  • Vision Loss is Preventable!

With the detection of symptoms such as blurred vision, eye pain, flashes of light, or sudden floaters in your vision, you should see your eye doctor as soon as possible. Depending on the initial cause of these symptoms and if they can be detected early enough, treatments are available that can correct, stop, or at least slow down the loss of vision. This is why annual eye exams are recommended.

  • Don’t look into the light!

When you look directly into the sun, you may experience headaches as well as temporary distortion in your vision. More importantly, looking into the sun can permanently damage your eyes! The center of our solar system gives off ultraviolet radiation (UV rays) that have been linked to disorders such as Macular degeneration, solar retinitis, corneal dystrophies, as well as increasing the odds of developing a cataract. The recommended rating for sun-glass eye protection is 100% UVA and UVB polarized lenses.A solar eclipse is the one event that you never want to look at without these protective sun-glasses.  It’s rays are an invisible threat which are not always seen but can permanently damage your eyes!
